Vibrant, attractive and prosperous, Solihull remains a key location in the West Midlands for inward investment and is forecast to be a driving force for job creation, with over 45% GVA growth forecast up to 2024. 

Home to Birmingham Airport, the NEC and Jaguar Land Rover – together with major Regional Investment Sites at Blythe Valley Park and Birmingham Business Park - Solihull supports a diverse business base through a combination of versatile facilities, a highly-skilled workforce and a compelling lifestyle proposition.  

The borough has been the 11th strongest growing economy in England since 1995 and is both a gateway to the region and a driver of economic growth and international business investment.  A recent study estimated that strategic assets alone located in Solihull support some 95,000 jobs across the West Midlands and some £5.5 billion of regional income. 

With its unrivalled transport connectivity by road, rail and air the borough is well-placed to serve London and North West markets, as well as capturing international trade opportunities through growth at Birmingham Airport.  High Speed 2 – the new, rapid rail link planned between London and the region – could reduce journey times to under an hour. 

Solihull has developed a broad portfolio of industry sectors, including a strong representation of business and financial services companies.  Within this sector, climate change and the low carbon agenda are creating new opportunities, attracting highly-specialist professionals to the region.  

The borough is also home to a strong base of ICT companies, particularly those involved in emerging technology such as radio-frequency identification, ICT security, photonics and informatics.  The share of Solihull’s ICT labour force, at just under 7%, is more than twice that of Great Britain’s. 

The borough is seeing growth too in manufacturing, construction, architecture and engineering services, as well as in the creative industries.  Indeed Solihull also has a higher percentage of employees in this blossoming sector than both the national and regional averages.
